“This Is What I’m After”

THEME: This Is What I’m After

TEXT: Philippians 3:3-14

Vs 10 That I may know HIM, and The power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable onto his death.

For the entire month of January I have preached messages about moving ahead, leaving the past behind, and embracing the future.

From Philippians 3:14 I have laid out a solid foundation for each one of us to have and enjoy the best year of our lives.

2.) Toward The MARK

3.) For The Prize

4.) Of THE HIGH CALLING OF GOD in Christ Jesus

Today I want to take you a further, to challenge you a little more, to awaken your inner being to something marvelous and wonderful.

Read Vs 11-14, add vs 10 AMPL

I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Vs 10 AMPL:

For my determined purpose is that I may Know Him, that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His person more strongly and more clearly, and that I in that same way come to know the power outflowing for His resurrection, which exerts itself over believers, and that I may so share in His sufferings as to be continually transformed in the Spirit unto His likeness even to His death, In THE HOPE.

The question today is simple:

What Are You After ? What Are You Pursuing ? What Floats Your Boat ?

I’m not talking about getting more stuff.

Most of us have more stuff right now that 98 percent of the other people in the world.

We have more stuff than we can handle and take care of.

We’ve gathered stuff until our lives are cluttered and weighed down.

We are trapped by STUFF. STUFF holds us back from God’s best.

In Vs 10 Paul the great Apostle of faith clearly paints a picture for us of the ONE THING that we can pursue that will change us forever.

I want to KNOW HIM.”

Aside from STUFF that you are wanting, what could be the most life impacting ONE THING that could change you forever ?

* Counting the cost is one of the most important aspects of going after anything.(counting the cost is essential for achieving anything worthwhile )

* People tend to VALUE what they have investment in.

You will wash a new car almost daily to keep it looking sharp and shiny

I think that we as preachers of the gospel have failed when it comes to getting people to understand the value of a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ. ( most church folks know about Him, they just don’t know Him.)

Esau sold a VALUABLE BIRTHRIGHT for a bowl of Campbell’s soup.

Ps 27:4 One thing have I desired of the Lord and THAT will I seek after. That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.

Psalm 27 is noted to be a psalm of David.

One of the most important things that we will ever learn about David is this: ( He was a man after God’s own heart. )

David had a true understanding of the VALUE of a close walk with God.

He was a man of many mistakes.

He was a man who failed in a very big way.

He was also a man who was quick to repent.

He was a man that desired to have God in first place in ALL of his life.

Psalm 27:4 uses a phrase that we miss the point of so often.

That will I seek after ”

* I get a picture in my mind of a desperate man doing ANYTHING REQUIRED of him to take hold of a PASSION.

Paul simply laid out a guideline for us in Philippians 3.

In Vs 10 He focuses directly on what is MOST IMPORTANT to him.

He understands that he hasn’t arrived yet.

He realizes without of an intimate relationship with God, life is empty.

He focuses not on Stuff, but ON HIM who has the power to change him

He declares his high and lofty credentials and realizes that its NOT ENOUGH.

Circumcised the 8th day.

Of the stock of Israel.

Of the tribe of Benjamin.

A Hebrew of the Hebrews.

A law keeper,

A Pharisee.

There were probably very few individuals that could have said all those things about themselves.

Paul wasn’t commending himself or boasting at all.

He was stating the fact that even though he had all these credentials, it still wasn’t enough. ( something was missing )

* What others would have considered GAIN, Paul said I count them LOSS, I give them up for something far better.

Vs 8 He reveals even more about his PASSION.

I count all things as LOSS.

What I’ve let go of is nothing but DUNG, so I can gain something better.

Vs 9 he hits a home run.

Vs 10 is a grand slam.

The ONE THING that David was after was God’s presence.

The one thing that Paul was after was God’s presence.

The one thing that we should be after is God’s presence.
