“The Greatest Pursuit”
THEME: The Greatest Pursuit Of All
TEXT: Philippians 3:14
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of god in Christ Jesus.
Over the past 3 Sundays we have talked about several aspects of moving forward in the New Year.
I Press :: Toward The Mark:: For The Prize::
Each one of these messages should have a profound impact on our everyday living.
Yet, there is one more message in this series that should elevate us to the very best position that we could ever desire spiritually.
It comes from the last 9 words of verse 14.
“ Of the high calling of God IN CHRIST JESUS.”
The GREATEST THING that anyone can ever accomplish in their life is TO DO THAT which God has called them to do, and TO BE THAT which God called them to be.
I.) WHO YOU ARE:
There is only one of you. There are no others like you.
God never expects us to be someone else. PERIOD !!!
When a person truly discovers who they are IN CHRIST, it alliviates any need to try to conform to be like anyone else.
Every single one of us are fearfully and wonderfully made. Ps:139
You are not a MISTAKE, even though you may have made MISTAKES.
You are not less significant or less important than anyone else.
You are a MASTERPIECE. Eph:2:10
There is not another person on planet Earth that can be YOU.
Society pressures us to try to be LIKE SOMEBODY ELSE.
We are called to CONFORM to the image of Jesus.
We are called to BE LIKE HIM.
II.) DISCOVERING YOUR GOD ORDAINED PURPOSE:
For I know the plans I have for you saith the Lord.
This one scripture is enough to grant me PEACE in the midst of any storm.
Why am I here ?
Answering this question can settle everything in your life.
What is MY PURPOSE IN LIFE ?
Know this: You HAVE A PURPOSE IN LIFE.
There is a REASON for your being.
We as parents need to be very careful how we cultivate our kids.
We mould them, but we can’t make them into anything.
Let God bring out WHO THEY ARE.
Let God fashion them and shape them.
Let God take the rough edges off of them.
Let God reveal HIMSELF in them and through them.
III.) FULFILLING THAT PURPOSE:
As it was with Jesus, God also desires for you to do what He’s called you to do.
No one has ever promised you that this would be easy.
I John 3:8
For this purpose was the Son of God manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
Jesus’ entire life was about ONE THING.
God will prepare you for years to perform a MOMENT in Life.
Jesus spent 30 years preparing for 3 years of ministry.
PREPARATION is never a waste of time or effort.
One of the saddest things in life is that of doing everything that you can to measure up like someone else and then discover that it isn’t you at all. It leaves you EMPTY and FRUSTRATED.
IV.) PLEASING GOD:
** The highest calling of God on our lives is TO PLEASE HIM.
Jesus said: “ I ONLY DO what pleases my Father.”
Those disciple boys around Jesus were constantly trying to persuade Him to do things their way.
The same people that value and love you today may throw you away tomorrow.
People are FICKLE, God is FAITHFUL.
Attempts to please people often take you directly out of God’s plan and purpose for your life.
From a spiritual perspective:
Compromise usually comes when we continually try to please people.
